I've been realizing something about myself lately.

Sometimes, when things fall apart around me, my tendency is to find the broken shards, sweep them together, and begin to build again.

When You Don’t Feel Safe (If You Ever Did)

I have come to realize some of the how's and why's that are at the root of my many fears. 


I don't feel safe. 


It goes so far back into my childhood. 


On an intellectual level I know my mom and dad loved me beyond words. But theirs was a generation not prone to showing it. 


Being with my mom and being at home were my "safe places."


Home meant my childhood home. 


Even now, half jokingly, the words "I want to go home" escape my lips. …
