Devotional: Where You Go, I Will Go

But Ruth replied, "Don't urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.  Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the LORD deal with me, be it ever so severely, if anything but death separates you and me." When Naomi realized that Ruth was determined to go with her, she stopped urging her.  …

The River of Life

For momentary light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.  (2 Corinthians 4:17-18,  NIV)

I love waterfalls.  I love pictures of them, seeing them on movies or TV shows.  I love them in person. …

One Thing I Know

One thing I do know: I was blind but now I see!"  John 9: 24-25

I know that there have been times, particularly challenging times, when I feel there is nothing left to feel passionate about - as if every thing I once could see was gone.

Our challenges start to redefine who we are.  Yet, passion can be reborn in different ways.  But it is up to us to search for those ways.  We still have to participants in our own lives.

Devotional: Safe and Secure?

From the time I was a little girl, I wanted to feel safe and secure.

I think we all do.  Chronic illness can cause one to feel anything but safe and secure.  It is as if we are out in a desert, all alone, with no real path to follow.

We never know what will happen next - or what kind of day it will be.  God tells us that we are completely accepted by Him once we have given Him Lordship over our lives.  He also tellsus that we are able to feel secure in Him, even if we don’t feel so with our illnesses.

Thank God!

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.

Colossians 3:16

Have you noticed how Thanksgiving has almost become the “forgotten” holiday? It is kind of sandwiched between Back-to-School time and Christmas.  When I was young, Christmas advertising and promotions never started till the day after Thanksgiving.

Devotional: Trials and Trails

For we walk by faith, not by sight.   2 Corinthians 5:7 NIV

For those of us who follow Christ, it is a walk of faith.  For those of us with chronic challenges in our lives, that walk seems to call forth a deeper faith.

It is easy to have faith when things are going well.  It is easy to have faith when life is full of blessings.  But, I wonder, what kind of “faith” is that?  Are we simply trusting in the good (not that I am against good things mind you!) …

One Day ...

Jesus replied, "You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand."  (John 13:7, NIV)

What a lovely moment in Scripture!  When Jesus begins to wash His disciples feet.  Peter is quick to protest.  Jesus responds with “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”

Now, I don’t know about you, but I have a strong need to understand things.  I like to have the “how and why” questions answered.  …

Make Room for Daddy

make room for daddy

The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.  …

Making the Most of It

Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people),  Making the very most of the time [buying up each opportunity], because the days are evil.
Ephesians 5:15-16 Amplified Bible (AMP)

As we go from doctor visit to doctor visit this week (yesterday was consumed by another Chicago visit), I realize just how much time we spend at the various doctors that treat my husband, my son, and myself.

How Can I Keep From Singing ...

Sing to the LORD a new song, for He has done marvelous things; His right hand and His holy arm have worked salvation for him.  Psalm 98:1

Today, I experienced one of the greatest joys a mom, and grandmother, can experience.

I rarely get to church anymore.  It is just too hard and there is so much pain afterward.  Today, I forced myself.  I was going to be there no matter what.  I sat and watched my oldest son and his wife have their month-old babe dedicated to God, as they promised to raise him to love and know the Lord to the best of their ability.

The Story Continues

Today's devotional is a continuation of the devotional "The Monster Might Be Back, but God Is Still Here" that was published by Rest Ministries a few days ago.  If you have not read it, you might want to read it here before you read today's devotional.

I waited patiently for the Lord, and He inclined to me and heard my cry.  He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay, and He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.  …

Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You” Psalm 119:11

I’ve never been much at memorizing Scripture. In fact, the older I get, the harder it seems to be to memorize anything. So I was pretty much thrilled to see a Facebook post about memorizing Chapter 8 in the book of Romans. At first, I assumed it would be for the month of November. As I continued reading, and clicked on the link to the blog site, I found out this was memorizing the chapter in a year. …

Remembering God

These things I remember, and pour out my soul within me.  Psalm 42:4

One of the problems that I have is that I am quick to forget all of the things God has done for me in my life and dwell on the negative thing that might be happening in the moment.

God knows we will have times like these.  He also knows what needs to be done to bring ourselves up out of those times.  It can be summed up in one word.

We need to remember all God has done for us.

Is God Always Faithful?

I have not hid they righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and they salvation; and I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great assembly.  Psalm 40:11

God never ceases to amaze me.  When I am open to Him, to the lessons and the gifts He has for me - I see such an abundance.

When I grouse and complain, negativity abounds and it seems God is far away.

I'd rather be open.  …

Devotional: But I Don't Want Help!

But I am poor and needy; Yet the Lord thinketh upon me: Thou art my help and my deliverer; Make no tarrying, O my God.  Psalm 40: 17

I hate to be seen as a needy person.  Truth be told, I am.  I depend on others for my existence.  I need help doing things that were just simple little tasks.  I once took all these things for granted.

I see such a stark contrast between the person I used to be - a strong, vital professional who could spend long hours at work and then come home and take care of my household and the person I am today.  …
