Are You One of the Ten?

“Thank You Sign Refers To Message Of Appreciation And Gratefulnes” by Stuart Miles.jpg

Gratitude has become important to me.

I have kept odd lot gratitude lists, or kept partial lists in my daily journal, but I decided I wanted to keep one journal dedicated to all of my “Thank You’s”.

It fascinated me that in a reply to an email I had sent to a friend, she wrote back that perhaps our legacy is to simply say Thank You.

It gave me a lot to think about.

It also caused to me search out the verses below.

Now one of them, when he saw that he had been healed, turned back, glorifying God with a loud voice, and he fell on his face at His feet, giving thanks to Him. And he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But the nine—where are they?  Was no one found who returned to give glory to God, except this foreigner?” And He said to him, “Stand up and go; your faith has made you well.” Luke 17:15-19

You see, I want to be the leper that returns to say  “Thank You.” That resonates in my heart.  God chose, for whatever reason, to give me life.  Each day I live and move and exist in Him, whether I am aware of it or not.

What a simple thing to turn to Him and thank Him.

Yet, how awe inspiring it can be at the same time.

I may be feeling down - depressed - whatever - but as I write my daily list, as I search out the things I have never said thank you for before, my heart begins to warm and I see how truly much He has given me - so much more than I deserve.

There have been huge things to thank Him for.  And there are a myriad of small things.  Every day - every moment - contains something for which I can be grateful.

So perhaps, today, you will choose to be that one-out-of-ten that returns and says, “Thank You” and give God the glory He deserves - simply because He is God.

Father God, Sometimes thanking you seems so small, so insignificant a thing to do. Yet, how astonished you were when the foreigner returned to express his gratitude to You.  May we, day-by-day, follow his example, especially as we traverse this world of pain. May we be the one in ten who says thanks and gives all the glory to You. Amen and amen
