Don't Like Change?  Me Either

change

“For what I fear comes upon me, And what I dread befalls me." Job 3:25

Those old feelings well up again.  The ones that rebel when things are different.  The ones that surface when my old friend "change" comes around.

I know that most of us don't like changes.  We want things to be as they once were.  I think of the tall, thin, active me that once was deni.

I look in the mirror at the overweight, hunched, stuck in a recliner me that I am now - and pretty much hate it.

Those changes happened slowly.  Almost imperceptibly.  Maybe others saw them happening, but I didn't.  I joke about my "wide-load" wheel chair.  But in truth, I still struggle with that being "me."

Some changes come quickly.  My daughter's death.  My car accident.  My stroke.  And now my husband's death.

Nope.  Didn't like those changes, either.

I can't alter a single one of those things at this point in my life.

But with God's grace I can accept it to be what it is - the reality of my life right now.

But, there is one change I am looking forward to.  Paul describes it so well.

"in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed." 1 Corinthians 15:52

And that, dear reader, is a change we need not fear.

Father God, hold fast to us during those times of change.  During the days when life seems to collapse around us.  Grant us the confidence in You that we may trust that ahead of us is the most wonderfully amazing change of all.  Amen and amen.
