During the Lonely Times

Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.  I say to myself, "The Lord is my portion; therefor I will wait for him."  Lamentations 3:22-24

Some days it  can be difficult to believe that we belong anywhere at all.  The life we live on the path of chronic illness and challenges can be lonely.  People around us may not understand what we are going through or why we have the limitations we do.  Life can seem to just happen around us.

At times, I have to stop and remember the truths that I do belong to God, even when I feel I fit in nowhere else.

I need to read that the Lord is my portion.

I need to read that his compassions never fail.

I don't know why the sense of belonging is so important to us as human beings.  I do know that knowing that we are God's, we are special to Him, and that each new day we are met with God's love and compassion is something that I need to hold on tightly to.

Getting through our days can be challenging.

Getting through our days with God makes it possible.

I truly believe the above verse.  The Lord is our portion.

I am by no means a Bible scholar and am not going to pretend to be.  What has been explained to me is that when the Israelites passed over into the Promised Land, each tribe received a portion of the land.  All the tribes except the Levites.  They were the priests.

Their inheritance?  God himself.  They belonged to God in a special way.

In the New Testament, we are told

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. (1 Peter 2:9)

We must remember, in those alone times, that we are special possessions of His and we belong to God in a special way.

Father God, I pray that You will encourage each reader today and remind them of who they are in Your eyes - that they are chosen by You and special to You - and that You are their portion.  Grant them the courage and endurance to face each challenge that comes their way with the confidence that they belong completely to You.  Amen and amen.
