Even in Darkness

Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for those who are gracious and compassionate and righteous.  Psalm 112:4

I love promises from God that are able to push me out of the current place I am in and give me hope for the future.

God is so honest with us.  He knows that there will be darkness in our lives.  He doesn't pretend that this will be a perfect life. The will be problems.  Tucked within another promise are some of the things that this world, fractured by sin, might hold for us.

For who will separate us from the love of God?  Will tribulation or distress,or persecution or famine or nakedness or peril or sword?  Romans 8:35

The answer?  No one.  Nothing.  Ever.

There will be darkness. It is not the exception to life.  It is the rule for most all of us.

And in the darkness of those times of tribulation and distress, in the dark hours of persecution or famine, in the challenging times of want and danger -  God's promise stands firm.

Light will dawn out of the darkness.

I have written before about how visual images are important to me.  Sometimes they are born of my imagination - words create those images for me.  Yet, the photo I used today for the blog creates a better image of this dawning light than any words possibly could.

Out of utter darkness and despair, even in that darkness ... a light will dawn that is beyond our comprehension.  I can barely even imagine it.

If today finds you in darkness, dear reader, keep strong in the Lord.  The darkness may seem to be never-ending.  You may see no hope at all.

Yet God promises (and God keeps His promises), the light WILL come.

Father God, Thank you for Your promises.  When we have little else to hold on to, we have your words to uphold us.  Grant us the strength and courage to be faithful and upright until the day dawns that your light surrounds us forever.  Amen and amen.
