Pray without ceasing1 Thessalonians 5:17

I'm trying to be less impulsive.

My tendency is to jump into things without a lot of forethought.

That has caused me a lot of problems over the years.  Some large - some small.

I'm slowly (emphasis on the word slowly) learning I need to pray before I act.

Our family has a decision to make and my first thought was to just go ahead and do what seemed right to me.

I realized, "I need to pray about this" and said a short prayer.

Then I heard a "beep" on my phone.  It was the sound that signals I have a text.  I picked up my phone and looked at the message.

A smile spread across my face.

My daughter-in-law's family started a neat tradition.  They send group texts to each other - either encouraging Bible verses or lyrics to hymns.  I had asked if I could become a part of the group and am now a participant/recipient.

Here are the words that I found on my phone screen.

What a friend we have in Jesus,

all our sins and griefs to bear!

What a privilege to carry

everything to God in prayer!

O what peace we often forfeit,

O what needless pain we bear,

all because we do not carry

everything to God in prayer.

Have we trials and temptations?

Is there trouble anywhere?

We should never be discouraged;

take it to the Lord in prayer.

Can we find a friend so faithful

who will all our sorrows share?

Jesus knows our every weakness;

take it to the Lord in prayer..

Are we weak and heavy laden,

cumbered with a load of care?

Precious Savior, still our refuge;

take it to the Lord in prayer.

Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?

Take it to the Lord in prayer!

In his arms he'll take and shield thee;

thou wilt find a solace there.

What a strong reinforcement that was for me!  For a long time that was just a nice hymn I sang in church.  Now, I am slowly beginning to realize the depth of those words.

So today, my dear readers, I'd encourage you - no matter what faces you today - to take it to the Lord in prayer.

Father God, Thank you for the privilege you have given us.  What a blessing to know that we can take each and every burden to You and that You are never more than a prayer away.  Amen and amen.
