Fearfully and Wonderfully

chest baby

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalm 139:14

Today it is a stretch to write at all.  I somehow aggravated my spinal issues, so moving at all is difficult. It is on days like these that I realize how much I still take things for granted.

Simple things.  The ability  to roll over without pain.  Being able function without the fear of the pain that will arise.  Eating without pain.  Just moving at all.  I once read a book about taking control of your thoughts.  The author wrote, "If you are able to read these words, then there is more right with you than is wrong with you."

I thought that was interesting.  How many things do work well for us that we never even think about.  Our bodies are truly wondrous things!  Even when things are going wrong inside of them - there is still more going right than wrong.

It's hard to remember that.

I guess I'd ask that each of you, for a moment today, look to all that is working in your body - and praise God for that.  Are you able to see?  Praise God.

Are you able to walk?

Praise God.

Are you able to eat on your own?  Get dressed by yourself?

Praise God.

Think about what is inside of you.  Is your body still manufacturing new blood cells?  Does your spleen still work.  (What does a spleen DO anyway?)

Praise God.

Your cells are regenerating, your body is turning food into energy.

Praise God.

I know I've carried this to a bit of an extreme - but I think some days we have to in order to get beyond the pain of the moment.

The ultimate question for me?

Is there a better life ahead for those of us who believe?

Yes.

Praise God.

Father God, Thank you for the fact that we are indeed fearfully and wonderfully made - and made by You.  Thank you that it is in You that we live and move and exist and have our being.  Most of all - thank You for Your love.  Amen and amen.
