GPS Signal Lost

Your ears will hear a word behind you, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right or to the left. Isaiah 30:21

Yesterday became the trip to Chicago that wasn't.  Not terribly far into our trip, maybe the first 15 minutes, traffic on the Indiana tollroad began to slow.  As we approached the first toll plaza, it became apparent that we were in the middle of a backup of cars and trucks that were barely moving.

As we slowly inched our way forward, we saw that the road in front of us was blocked with bright orange traffic cones and all traffic was being directed onto an offramp that led to a small town.

Now what?

My son turned on his GPS and asked for alternate directions to Chicago

"It should take us about an hour from here just to get into the city," he said.

We followed the GPS directions and crawled through the massive backup of cars and trucks that were also trying to figure out where to go.

Then came the words.

"GPS signal lost."

I sighed.

Now what?

We just followed along with traffic.

It struck me that although we didn't know how to get to Chicago from here, it was a temporary setback.  The doctor appointment was canceled and rescheduled - and we did know how to get back home from where we were.

I suddenly became thankful that I never get a 'GPS signal lost' announcement from God.

He never loses sight of where I am.

Granted, I may be the one who wanders and gets lost.

But my directions for finding Him again?

They are always, always there.

If I listen - His voice will always guide me correctly.

So - trip to Chicago?

 Not accomplished.

Another lesson from God?

Spot on.

Father God, thank you that you never turn away from us - that we are never without direction. Thank you that we can rely on your guidance and follow Your words to reach our ultimate destination.  You.

Amen and amen.
