Hopelessness … or Inner Strength?

contemplative child.jpg

In those days you were living apart from Christ. You were excluded from citizenship among the people of Israel, and you did not know the covenant promises God had made to them. You lived in this world without God and without hope. Ephesians 2:12

As I continue my excursion through Ephesians - reading the book each day for 21 days - more and more things stand out to me.

I see phrases that hit home.

When I read, “You lived in this world without God and without hope,” it struck me just how awful it would be to live this life of facing chronic challenges without God.

I’ll admit to times that feel hopeless.  This past week has been one of facing challenge after physical challenge, doctor visits, etc, etc, etc.

There are moments …. moments, mind you… where it all feels hopeless.

I don’t like those moments.

Ephesians tells me I do have hope - hope because I have God.

I struggle to deal with uneven, irregular heartbeats.  I almost cringe when they start.  Is it a-fib?  Something worse?

Whatever their source, I get tired and out of breath.  Life seems to stop during those moments.

Time and time again, I have to hand it back over to God.

How grateful I am for this section of Ephesians as well:

I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong, Ephesians 3: 16-17

It is that inner strength I need.  The strength that only comes to us from God through His Spirit.

I crave those deep, deep roots.

The roots that will keep me inwardly strong.

I am not sure how regularly I will be posting.  I will post as I am able.  If you don’t see a post from me, please say a prayer that God will grant me that inner strength I so need.
