Jesus With Skin On

For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 1 Corinthians 13:12

This isn't my "usual" devotional post - yet I hope you can find it encouraging.

I was never a television watcher.  I never went to the movies very often.  At least not before my challenges entered my life.  I was too busy - too active.  Yet, now that I've been afforded more time, I tend to do more reading (listening), watching TV, and movies.

I watched a movie the other night that was on Netflix - "The Encounter."

It's a Christian film - with a Christian message.  Yet, beyond the message of salvation - another message rang through. The man who played Jesus in the film was amazing.  His name is Bruce Marchiano. I know little of him beyond the part he played other than he is an actor, does speaking engagements and has a ministry.

Sometimes it is hard for me (even with my vivid imagination) to try to get a picture of Jesus in my mind.  What he was like ... not what he looked like.

Yet, this role was played with so much love and kindness.  I felt warmed after watching it.  I don't think I could even imagine such a loving person.

I know Scripture pretty well.  But the way He spoke His words just oozed love.

I grew up in a family where emotions were not to be expressed.  Somehow there was shame in sadness, love wasn't really talked about, and anger was wrong.  I guess I shut down emotionally.

Yet, this film seemed as if it lifted a veil.  I began to see and feel beyond what I normally do.

It made Jesus more real for me.  It made Him a person with skin on.

If there is any way possible for you to see this film - or its predecessor "Apostle Peter & the Last Supper" I'd encourage you to do so.  They are very, very powerful movies - very encouraging - and very real.

I know everyone may not agree with me on this.  That's ok.  It might not interest you to seek them out.  That's ok, too.  But if you feel a tiny tug that maybe this is for you - I pray the door opens.

Jesus with skin on.

Father God, Thank you for the many diverse ways you reveal yourself to us.  Thank you for helping us know you want us to know you fully - and realize just how fully you know and love us.  Amen and amen.

Have there been films that have "changed your life"?   I'd love to hear about them!  What movies would you recommend?

Comments are both welcomed and encouraged! I so appreciate hearing your thoughts and getting to know you through them!  I do read them and am so blessed by them.
