Keeping It Simple

Jesus and Children008

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14

There are times when I realize that what works for me is something simple.  I often seem to make things more difficult than they really need be.  The other day I heard someone talking about a song most learn early in childhood.  I found myself quietly singing the words to the song.  Yet, as I sang them, I found myself smiling.

Yes, I know the words are simplistic.

Yes, I know they are not deep and profound.

Yes, I know they are childlike.

Perhaps that is why they ring true for me once again.

And, perhaps you, like I, tend to make things more complicated than they truly are.  The words remind of how simple it all really is.

"Jesus loves me, this I know,

For the Bible tells me so.

Little ones to Him belong,

They are weak  and He is strong.

Yes, Jesus loves me.

Yes, Jesus loves me.

Yes, Jesus loves me.

The Bible tells me so."

I have heard that adults request the song "Jesus Loves Me" more often than children do.  Maybe deep inside we all know that what we need do is keep it simple.

Father God, Thank you that all that is required of us is a child-like faith.  When we are down - weary - discouraged perhaps a simple tune with simple thoughts and simple words are the best thing we can do for ourselves.  Help us to remember that "Jesus loves us."  Amen and amen.
