More Than We Can Be

Now God has not only raised the Lord, but will also raise us up through His power. 1 Corinthians 6:14

If you've been following this blog for a while, you know how important music is to me.  Right now I have a song playing that fills my heart.  It's called "You Raise Me Up" by Josh Groban.

I'd like to share the lyrics with you.  I have posted the video below as it is sung by my mom's favorite singer - Danny O'Donnell. (For my email friends - click here.)

"You Raise Me Up"

When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary;
When troubles come and my heart burdened be;
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence,
Until you come and sit awhile with me.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up... To more than I can be.

There is no life - no life without its hunger;
Each restless heart beats so imperfectly;
But when you come and I am filled with wonder,
Sometimes, I think I glimpse eternity.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up... To more than I can be.

You raise me up... To more than I can be.

I am awed by these words.  To think that He was raised up on a cross so all of these things could be true for us brings tears to my eyes.

I think the words are so fitting for those of us who struggle with our challenges.  I know I get weary of it all.  Life can be depressing if that is all I focus on.  I have always felt that there should be more to life than this life of pain and illness.

When I hear these words (which I have on repeat play!), I realize that there is more.  But that "more" can only be found in Him.

Father God, Thank you that You can bless us through the words of others.  Thank you for those who pen the words to songs that do indeed lift us up. Grant each of us that glimpse of eternity, Lord.  Help us to know that our strength is You and You alone.  Raise us up, Lord - to more than we ever dreamed we can still be.  Amen and amen.
