Revisiting: Strength for Today

Today, I find, is one of the "I need strength to get through this day, Lord" days.  Some days are definitely more difficult than others.  It's important to remember just exactly where our strength comes from!

Lord, Be gracious to us; we long for You.  Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress.  Isaiah 33:2

Sometimes I wonder how in the world I got started writing this blog. I think a lot of it came out of my love for Scripture.

I've always written things down - from the silly little stories I wrote as a child, to journaling for years.  I've attempted books (I have about 4 unpublished manuscripts and a screenplay.)  Yet, I think that writing this blog is my favorite thing to do.

I think I write because encouragement means so much to me.  I know I need a lot of it to keep myself going. Why wouldn't others?

So much encouragement comes to me through verses like this one.

Having God as my strength every morning - what an amazing thing to think about.

We have God's grace, mercy, and strength!

Time and again I have wondered how folks manage this life without God.  And how do those who have daily challenges manage to make it through?

I know God IS my strength.  On my own - well I have precious little.

To remember to wake each morning, thinking of Him - claiming His strength for the day.

The thing I have realized is that God doesn't give more strength than we need for the moment.  It's as if we can't save it up - much the same way the Israelites were not able to save up the manna in the desert.  They were given what they needed for each day - and a double portion on the day before the Sabbath.  They were given what they needed - when they needed it.

So many times I feel as if I do not have the strength to make it through.  Yet, here I am.

That alone, I hope encourages some of you to keep going.  We do make it through.  A wonderful 12-step program slogan says, "The only way out is through."

It may not be in the way we expected.  We might have rough sailing.  But as long as we rise each morning and ask God for strength for the day - we will get through.  One way or another, it will happen.

I realize that for some of us, the journey in this lifetime is short.  We may be facing the winter of our lives, perhaps never having experienced the summer days - or the days are cut short before we would have chosen.

Yet, even in these circumstances, God will give us the grace and mercy and, yes, strength to see it through.

Father God, I pray that as we wake each morning, one of our first thoughts, if not our very first thought is to ask you for strength for the day.  Encourage us to seek Your face.  Amen and amen.
