Revisiting: Where Do We Belong Now?

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.         1 Peter 2:9

So often, those of us who face chronic challenges wonder who in the world we are now and where we belong.  Our identities have changed so much.  I’ve been struggling lately with having to admit that even more of my plans are going by the wayside, and it’s hard to deal with.

Then, I found this verse while preparing for a Bible study.   I changed the way I read it and I read it out loud.

But I, deni, am part of a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God.  (That’s ME we’re talking about here!) that I, deni, may declare the praises of Him who called me out of darkness into his wonderful light”.

Try saying that out loud  and inserting your own name.  How can you not feel differently about yourself.  As believers we have every right to claim that verse!  We are chosen, royal, holy, and we belong to God.

I know I have often questioned in the past, ‘Where do I belong now?’ And the answer has been in front of me the whole time.  I belong to God.  The God who loved me so much He called me  (Me!!!) out of darkness into His wonderful light.

I find I can’t say those words and feel the same about myself.  I feel special.  I feel I know more of who I am, I know where I belong, and I know I am no longer in darkness, but in HIS wonderful light.

It may not always feel that way … but our emotions are not the compass to guide us.  God’s word is – and His word is Truth.

So you, my dear reader – if you belong to him – are also chosen, royal, holy, and you belong to the God who has called you OUT of the darkness into His light.

When you are feeling down, depressed, and out of place in this world.  Remember there is somewhere you belong - and someone you belong to.

Father God, Thank you for all you have done for us.  Help us to open our eyes and see all that you have created us for.  Thank you for who we are in Your eyes, because of the gift of Christ.  Amen and amen.
