Sitting in Darkness

Are there difficult times in your life, when you look around you and everything seems shrouded in darkness? Do you look upon those times with dread?  Perhaps God has a different use for those dark days.

"Rejoice not over me, O my enemy; when I fall, I shall rise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD will be a light to me." (ESV) Micah 6:8

Oh my, how those words jump out at me.

When I sit in darkness …

That is very much what the silence feels like when it descends.

I'm beginning to see the difference between the silence I used to seek out and the silence I feel now.

The former - was silence flooded with light.  I sought out the silence - the times to come before God.  Those silences were filled with God.

Now the silences are unwanted ones.  Dark ones.  Dreaded ones.

The answer to filling them with God seems oh-s0-simple.

Yet, I can understand why they are still harder.

Some silent times are sought out.

Some are thrust upon us.

Some are wanted.

Some feel like doom hanging over us.

I know that yesterday, I wrote of the same thing.  I told you I knew what to do to stem the spreading of the darkness, if you will.

I know what I need to do.

Yet, how much harder it is than before.

As if I am walking through mud and mire, struggling to get to that light.

It never dawned on me that if I sat in the darkness, the light would come to me.

In truth, even though I've not seen it - its been there all along.

Father God - Help us to realize that sitting in darkness is not a bad thing, not something to be feared.  That in those dark times - You will be our light - right where we are. Amen and amen.
