The Little Things?

Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O LORD of hosts, my King and m God.  Psalm 84:3

As I lose more and more control over the big events in my life, I am becoming more and more aware of the smaller ones.  The little ones.  The day-to-day ones that I used to take for granted.

The little things …

A safe trip to my doctor in Chicago complete with a parking spot.  Thank you, Lord.

A Scripture verse exactly when I need it.  Thank you, Lord.

The sun shining bright, warming my body and my soul.  Thank you, Lord.

Beautiful hymns that speak both to myself and to my Lord.  Thank you, Lord.

Learning to cope with my once again “new normal.”  Thank you, Lord.

Finding ways to do small things for myself.  Thank you, Lord.

Being able to shop for my daughter and myself online.  No need for others to do a lot of shopping for me.  Thank you, Lord.

Finding that they make camisoles for those who have had mastectomies, as my body can no longer tolerate the tension of the strap required by a bra.  Thank you, Lord.

Little things, you know?

The things I would have overlooked before.

The things I took for granted.

Being able to sit up in my chair for a few hours.

Sleeping more than three hours at a time.

Nothing big.

Or, perhaps,

just perhaps,

they aren’t so little after all …

They are the moment-to-moment evidence of the love God gives to His children - and what could be greater than that?
