"This Is For You" - A Timely Revist

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;  so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. 1 Timothy 3:16-17.

I had a rather strange experience with my Bible today as I was searching for a topic to write about.  There have been few "lesson" moments to write about the past few days, which is a wonderful thing in many ways.  However, during those times, the writing comes easily.

On days when I need search for my words, I try to be open to God's leading.  Today, rather than look on my phone application, I got out my Bible and started looking through it.  I still had no ideas.

My son had suggested just letting the Bible fall open and then read whatever was there to see if something jumped out.  So, I tried that.

I've been struggling with some personal issues lately and my Bible fell open to a chapter which directly addressed those issues.  Yet, I knew that wasn't a devotional topic.  So, I tried again.  I read those pages.  No - not devotional content,  But - it still fit where I was at with my other problem.

              Romans 15:4

I felt as if God was saying, "This is for you, deni. Not for anyone else.  You."

As I kept searching, I kept finding.  I was amazed at how applicable each portion of Scripture was.

Over and over, 'This is for you, deni."

Still, my dilemma of what to write about wasn't solved.  None of those things were appropriate for an encouraging devotional.

Continuing to search, it finally dawned on me what I was to write about.

You see, it's been a long time since I just read the Bible, looking at different portions of Scripture just for the searching of it.  I have a Bible reading plan to get through the Bible in a year chronologically.  I am memorizing (or trying to memorize!) specific Scriptures.

But it's been a fairly long time since I just read Scriptures waiting for God to speak to me through them.

I think I had forgotten that all of Scripture was calling out:

"This is for you, deni.  It's all written for you."

And I realize that, of course, it is not written just for me.

It's also written for you.

So my encouraging word for today?

Read (or listen to) God's word searching out what He has just for you today.  Read carefully.  Read slowly. And wait for His Spirit to nudge you and say,

"This is for you."

Father God, I'm always dumbfounded how seemingly random things can all be brought together by You.  Thank you for Your words that were written for each of us.  I pray that we do not take our Bibles for granted - but cherish them as Your word spoken to each of us.  Amen and amen.
