Wait For It . . .

I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord! Psalm 27:13-14

A few days ago, I wrote about having the confidence that we will see goodness in our world - even when we are going through bleak times.  Good is still there because God is still there!

I think the next verse explains it more, as that can be a very difficult idea to believe when things are awful.

Sometimes we need to wait.  The good isn't always immediate.  It isn't always easily seen.  Oft times we even doubt that it's there.

But God says (in the current vernacular)

"Wait for it …, Waaaiiit for it …, Waaaaiiiiiit for it …….."

And, while we are waiting …

Be strong

Find the courage within you …

And wait.

Simply wait.

So many times it has happened that it wasn't until I pretty much have given up and said to myself.

"Ok, there is nothing I can do here.  If anything good is going to happen, it has to come from God."

And then I simply wait.

Some times, it's a long wait.

Sometimes, God surprises me with a sudden blessing.

But it always happens.

God has not failed this promise to me, even when I didn't think it was possible for any good any to exist again.

After the terrifying death of my daughter, I felt the darkness had won. I didn't think there could be any good found anywhere.

But there was.

I didn't see how anything good could possible be found after my car accident and stroke.

But there was.

I certainly didn't think life held anything good after my devastating health challenges reared there ugly heads.

Again, there was still good to be found ahead.

I could go on, the death of my brother, the death of my husband, my adopted daughters suicide attempt, so many things.

Yet, at some point, God did allow me glimpses of incredible good - glimpses of Him in this world. There have been moments of pure joy - of exultation.

It can be so hard to wait the darkness out.

But we can. We are promised that good still exists and will be seen in this life.

And the good we will see in the next life?

That is so worth waiting for, too.

Father God, thank you for the encouragement of Your word.  Help us to cultivate that ability to wait.  Help us to learn to be strong in You.  Encourage us so we may find that courage you have placed within us - that can only be found in Your love.  And Lord?  Help us to love while we wait.  Amen and amen.
