When Each Path Seems To Lead to "No."

In peace I will both lie down and sleep, for You alone, O Lord, Make me to dwell in safety. Psalm 4:8

Today I struggle to write a post.  I had a glimmer of this post a few days ago.  Today, I find the words for it.

What happens on the day when there is simply no more to give?

What happens on the day when there are no more words to write?

What happens on the day when there is nothing?

What happens on the day when every path you have followed seems to lead to, "No."

You pray for healing.

And God seems to be saying, "No."

You pray to be able to keep on doing what you are doing.

And God seems to be saying, "No."

You pray for something ...

And God says ... "No" ... or even worse ... says nothing at all.

What do you do when every path seems to lead to ... "No."

That is a question I, like others of you, ask myself this morning.

I ran across a verse in Scripture where Christ is talking to Peter.

“Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat; Luke 22:31

Sometimes I wonder ... are we being sifted?

Are these sufferings tests of a sort?

And the worst question of all ... what if I fail the test?

Is hearing "No" and seeing no road ahead some sort of test for me?

I don't understand days like these - the days when there is seemingly nothing.

Am I failing God?

Days like this are difficult.  Questions like this are difficult.

Yet ... in the midst of all the questions a truth rings out.

When we feel we are failing the test - we can rest assured that we have already passed it.

God made sure of that when Christ was sent to the cross.

Everything may feel like nothing.

All the answers seem to be, "No."

There may be no answers at all right now.

Yet we must hold dear the fact that we are His children.  He is not abandoning us.  The door will open.  The path will be made clear.

"No" may simply mean wait.  Get ready.  What you need is on its way.

Perhaps there is no "No."

Perhaps there is only "Not yet."

Father God, When we struggle with finding no answers - when every road seems to be blocked, grant us the endurance, strength, courage, and perseverance we need to wait on You, knowing You will never, ever let go of even one of Your children.  Help us to remember that our security lies in You and You alone.  Amen and amen.
