When We Look Around - Part 2

Yesterday's post, When We Look Around, got me to thinking.

If we are not to look around anxiously (something so easy for me to do - kind of like anxiety is my fall-back position), how are we to look around?

I came up with this list:

Look with anticipation.

Therefore my heart rejoiced and my tongue exulted exceedingly; moreover, my flesh also will dwell in hope [will encamp, pitch its tent, and dwell in hope in anticipation of the resurrection]. Acts 2:26  Amplified Bible

That [Spirit] is the guarantee of our inheritance [the first fruits  the pledge and foretaste, the down payment on our heritage], in anticipation of its full redemption and our acquiring [complete] possession of it—to the praise of His glory. Ephesians 1:14 Amplified Bible

Look with joy.

But let all who take refuge in You be glad, Let them ever sing for joy; And may You shelter them, That those who love Your name may exult in You. Psalm 5:1  NASB

You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever. Psalm 16:1  NASB

But as for me, I shall sing of Your strength; Yes, I shall joyfully sing of Your lovingkindness in the morning, For You have been my stronghold And a refuge in the day of my distress. Psalm 59:16 NASB

Look with expectation:

according to my earnest expectation and hope, that I will not be put to shame in anything, but that with all boldness, Christ will even now, as always, be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. Philippians 1:20 NASB

Look with wonder.

“Who is like You among the gods, O Lord? Who is like You, majestic in holiness, Awesome in praises, working wonders? Exodus 15:11 NASB

Who does great and unsearchable things, Wonders without number. Job 5:9 NASB

To Him who alone does great wonders, For His lovingkindness is everlasting; Psalm 136:4

Look with amazement.

And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet. While they still could not believe it because of their joy and amazement, He said to them, “Have you anything here to eat?” They gave Him a piece of a broiled fish; Luke 24:40-42 NASB

Look with love:

“Because he has loved Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name. Psalm 91:14 NASB

Hatred stirs up strife, But love covers all transgressions.Proverbs 10:12

John 13:35 NASB

By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love. John 15:9 NASB

So there it is.

We look around with anxiety, fear, dread, and worry.

Or we can look with anticipation, joy, expectation, wonder, amazement, and love.

What will you clothe yourself with today?

Father God, thank you that You are our anchor in the storm.  That when negative events and emotions whirl around us, you have given us the capacity to steep ourselves in your love and joy and strength.  Help us to ever focus on You.  Amen and amen!
