When You Are Weary

“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."  Matthew 11:28

I realize that this is a verse most people are familiar with. I know it is considered to be a "comfort" verse.  It's easy to understand why.

How often do you feel weary?  Burdened by the cares of life?

I like the way that the NASB used the words "heavy-laden."

How life can feel that way!

One of the things I appreciate about Scripture is that is pulls no punches.

God knew we would get weary.  He knew we would feel weighted down with the burdens that accompany this life.

I guess the reason this verse is meaningful for me today is that I do feel weary.  I do feel as if things are just piling up on my family and myself.

It is easy to identify with so many passages in the Bible: The story of Job, Jeremiah in his depression, Jonah running away because of fear.  It's all right there.

Yet, just as the cares and concerns and challenges are laid out for us - so is the solution.

And it's the same solution no matter what the problem.

"Come to Me."

He calls to us daily.

He woos us with His words.

His keen desire is that we come to Him - the only true source of comfort that we have.

Today, I need comfort.

I know just where to go to find it.

Today, I need respite from the world - from all that life is handing out.

And I know exactly what to do.

I come before my Lord and God and acknowledge what He already knows.

I need Him to be real in my life today.  And it is I who must seek His rest.

Is today one of the weary days for you?  Are you challenged?  Burdened?  Tired from all the trials of life?

Your answer is the same as mine.

And He is waiting for both of us.

Right now.

Father God, Time and again, You show me the amazing provisions you have for those who love You.  Time and again, I need take You up on them.  I cannot go this road alone.  Thank You for the rest You are providing for me, and for each who comes to You.  Amen and amen.
