Words on a Page

How do you face life when all you see if pain around you and ahead of you?  Is it possible to find comfort in this life?  God's word says, "Yes."

This is my comfort in my affliction, that Your word has revived me.  Psalm 119:50

I know it's nothing new.

I know it can sound trite.

I know you have probably heard it before.

I know I have even doubted how it could be possible.

How can words on a page comfort us, much less revive us, when everything around us seems to bring pain?

It doesn't really makes sense, does it?

Yet, time after time, Scripture tells us the importance of God's word.

I've read that the Bible is the best selling book of all time.

My suspicion is that it is one of the least read.

I've no facts to back that up.  Yet, a lot of people I know who state they are Christians don't seem to know much about Scripture.

Seems kinda funny, doesn't it?

I mean, here we are, claiming the name of a man (or title, as it may be), and there is a book written all about Him.

But we don't read it.

Or we read a little of it when we can.

But we often don't look at it as the living word of God.

At least, a lot of us don't.

I know that for a long time, I didn't.

I'm glad those days seem to be over.  Now, I find that Scripture is where I find comfort.  I can find verse after verse that seems to speak directly to me.

And I certainly need that now.

Perhaps I cheat.  I go to Biblegateway and type in a word.  "Comfort" for example.  And a list of verses pops up.  Eighty-four of them in the NASB version of the Bible.

And I scroll through them.  When one reaches out and grabs me (as did the above), I read it, read its context - sometimes dive into the whole chapter.

I might write them on a 3x5 card.

I might decide it is one that needs to be memorized.

And then I start again.  I find verse after verse that speaks to me.

And yes, I find comfort.

My dear, dear readers, if you are facing what seems to be the unfaceable, take heart.  Open your Bible, go online - whatever way fits you best.  And search.

Search until you find your comfort.

God promises it will be there for you.

Father God, You Word is amazing.  It can comfort us, encourage us, convict us, revive us.  It can bring us peace.  I pray you will instill in each of us the desire to meet You in Your word on a daily basis - bringing hope and comfort to your each of your children.  Amen and amen.
